Backed by vast amounts of data, Fannie Mae collaborates with lenders and industry innovators to expand credit access for millions of Americans. The Vice President, Data Science Modeling (“VP-DSM”), plays a key role in enabling the digital transformation of the enterprise and broader housing finance system by advanced modeling solutions to a variety of non-traditional applications to re-inventing business-as-usual practices, exploring model prototypes, identifying new data sources, and investing in our data science and quantitative analysts

 

The VP-DSM will partner closely with senior leaders across the organization to lead Fannie Mae’s continued transformation to become an innovative, data-driven organization. The incumbent applies analytical/empirical decision-making expertise while balancing between the role of strategist and change agent. The VP-DSM demonstrates a deep understanding of data science and proactively champions data as an asset and strategic driver of innovation and customer impact – ensuring the delivery of insight is consistent, reliable, and accessible. This person is a recognized thought leader in how organizations use data to maximize stakeholder outcomes and is deeply skilled in facilitating collaboration across leadership teams to assess organizational challenges and industry trends – leveraging data as the catalyst for insight and decision making.

 

The VP-DSM will report directly into the Senior Vice President & Chief Data, Modeling & Innovation Officer.

 
 
Key Job Functions & Duties

  • Enable the digital transformation of the enterprise to more efficiently and effectively deliver our core strategic objectives by system through applying advanced modeling solutions to a variety of non-traditional applications to re-inventing BAU practices, exploring model prototypes, identifying new data sources, and investing in our data science and quantitative analysts
  • Modeling Capabilities
    • Develop and deploy new modeling capabilities (NPL, OCR, text mining, operational optimization, RNN)
    • Build out predictive analytics center of excellence capabilities to enhance the delivery of model applications and support the integration of data and models into enterprise- and business-level use cases
    • Advance Machine learning - assessment, tuning, and use of modern methods within modeling frameworks and platforms for large and small, fast (<10 ms) and slow (~1s) data problems
    • Work closely with the heads of Finance, Risk, Technology, Operations and the Business lines to identify new or enhanced capabilities that will advance the firm’s strategic objectives
  • Modeling Prototypes
    • Design, develop, and launch efficient and reliable analytic solutions for longer-term integrations/scale
    • Evaluate the landscape of tools to enable rapid delivery of scalable solutions that unlock value across the organization and enhance existing capabilities
    • Work with business partners to identify opportunities to transform large volumes of data into AI-driven solutions using creative, cutting edge methodologies and tools.
    • Advance machine learning strategy and road map planning working across the modeling community
  • Modeling tool/product development
    • Lead the production of enterprise modeling applications to support risk measurement, financial valuation, and business performance
    • Enable the consistent deployment of innovative predictive tools and resources around data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning techniques
    • Ensure that data is accessible, available, accurate, timeline, and adaptable for business use
  • DS and Quant Training SME
    • DS and Quant Training SME courses to advance the predictive analytic skill sets
    • Develops communication and partnership-building campaigns to raise awareness of functional capabilities and ensure alignment with functional initiatives.  
    • Oversees the design and selection of training courses that develop core data science skillsets across Fannie Mae.
  • Manage Model Risk – Ensure model development and performance is aligned with materiality of use through well-defined development, validation, monitoring and maintenance of underwriting, fraud, marketing, and operations models.
 
 
 
 

Qualifications
  • 10-15 years of increasingly responsible modeling and strategy experience, with eight or more years of commercially-focused business experience at a senior leadership-level
  • Expertise in risk modeling, machine learning, data science, and competitive intelligence
  • Executive management and leadership skills to create a vision, mobilize and empower teams to achieve, and build and execute on any and all data functions
  • Track record of clear vision, execution focus, strong prioritization, and planning capabilities
  • Proven ability to assimilate quickly into new environments by absorbing information that creates a deep understanding of business process, strategic goals, and objectives
  • Relationship management skills to collaborate and partner with senior decision makers across the company
  • Experience in developing effective commercial business cases and program portfolio rationalization and prioritization
  • Outstanding ability to drive and implement change initiatives and execute organizational change management at the executive level
  • Strong track record of leading, coaching, developing and motivating multi-discipline and multi-cultural teams
