Use modern tools, techniques, and methods to develop, modify, or update applications used by business units or infrastructure units. Lead, or play lead technical role in development teams' efforts to determine unit needs and business processes that are automated by the application. Assess high level design issues relating to platform, enterprise software, and interactions with other systems.

Lead Enterprise Test Engineering team with focus on Performance & Chaos Engineering aspects of application/infrastructure architecture, automation and testing of large-scale mission critical systems. Applies expertise in best practices of performance engineering, works with peers and stakeholders in bringing the practice maturity to the next level. In this role, you are responsible for driving performance and stability improvements of critical business applications, the architecture, and integrations to ensure optimal end user experience by working closely with Application development, Infrastructure, Database and middleware teams.

  • Create or update documentation in support of development efforts. Documents may include detailed specifications, implementation guides, architecture diagrams or design documents.
  • Participate in code reviews with peers and managers to ensure that each increment adheres to original vision as described in the user story and all standard resource libraries and architecture patterns as appropriate.
  • Respond to trouble/support calls for applications in production in order to make quick repair to keep application in production.
  • Serve as a technical lead for an Agile team and actively participate in all Agile ceremonies. Participate in all team ceremonies including planning, grooming, product demonstration and team retrospectives
  • Mentor or provide technical guidance to less experienced staff; may use high end development tools to assist or facilitate development process.
  • Leverage Fannie Mae DevOps tool stack to build, inspect, deploy, test and promote new or updated features. May serve as technical lead, architect, project lead or principle developer in course of large or complex project.
  • Expert proficiency in unit testing as well as coding in 1-2 languages (e.g. Java, etc).
  • Define architecture, design, and implementation of the Performance Engineering & Testing Frameworks
  • Lead a team of PE/PT engineers to consistently insure quality and performance into our development process.
  • Help create and maintain an automated performance testing infrastructure and draft product release deliverables consistent with established standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Facilitate the design and development of performance engineering and resiliency methodologies, collaborating with engineering and product teams to implement shift left techniques on test design and automation.
  • Perform load tests to validate system performance and stability.
  • Oversee system performance lifecycle and identify key metrics for performance improvements.


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required


  • 8+ years of related experience


  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience with high-traffic, large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures.
  • Ability to define and drive performance strategy at line of business and project level
  • Hands-on experience in debugging, troubleshooting and performance tuning Java applications and garbage collection. Understand memory management and thread pools.
  • Experience in performance evaluation tools like Dynatrace, LoadRunner, Blazemeter, JMeter etc.
  • Deep knowledge of DB (Oracle) overall performance and DB query analysis.
  • Knowledge or experience with large scale cloud application monitoring, analysis and troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Expertise with modern micro service-based architectures & operations in a heterogeneous environment spanning on-prem & cloud stacks
  • Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure) a plus.
  • Highly effective communication skills and experience on a service-oriented team
  • Experience in performance testing of COTS products like ServiceNow, Salesforce etc. a plus
